Map of New York State divided into counties and state Assembly Districts

Jefferson County is divided among three New York State Assembly districts: the 116th, 117th, and 120th. Do you know which district you live in and who represents you in the NYS Assembly?

We wouldn’t blame you, if you didn’t. There are 150 districts in the New York State Assembly. Confusingly, Jefferson County was split between the three different districts, based on the 2020 census and a redistricting that occurred in 2024. You’ll need to know which one is yours when you’re preparing to vote for the 2026 NYS Assembly races. Depending on where you live, you’ll fall into one of these districts (click the links to see full maps):

New York State Assembly District 116

The 116th NYS Assembly District covers the western and northern portions of Jefferson County along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. It includes the City and Town of Watertown, plus the towns of Henderson, Hounsfield, Brownville, Lyme, Cape Vincent, Clayton, Orleans, Alexandria, Theresa, Antwerp, Philadelphia, and Pamelia. It also extends into northern St. Lawrence County. In 2026, this district is represented by NYS Assemblyman Scott Gray, a Republican from Watertown, and he is running uncontested in the 2026 general election.

New York State Assembly District 117

The 117th NYS Assembly District covers eastern portions of Jefferson County and includes the towns of LeRay, Wilna, Champion, Rutland, and Rodman. The District also covers a number of towns in southern St. Lawrence and northern Oneida counties, plus all of Lewis County. In 2026, the 117th District is represented by NYS Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush, a Republican from Black River; however, he is retiring at the end of this year. Democrat Dennis Gordon from Fort Drum is running against Republican Tammie Nabywaniec from Watertown for the 117th District race.

New York State Assembly District 120

The 120th NYS Assembly District covers southern and southwestern portions of Jefferson County, and it includes the towns of Adams, Ellisburg, Lorraine, and Worth. The District also covers the entirety of Oswego County, plus the northern portion of Cayuga County. In 2026, the 120th District is represented by NYS Assemblyman William Barclay, a Republican from Pulaski; however, he is also retiring at the end of this year. Democrat Timothy Allers from Mexico, NY is running against Republican Jim Weatherup from Central Square for the 120th District contest.

Like members of the Jefferson County Legislature and the NYS Senate, NYS Assembly members serve two-year terms. With all 150 NYS Assembly seats on the ballot in 2026, Jefferson County voters will have the opportunity to choose their representatives in Albany. Be sure to find your Assembly district, learn about the candidates, and make a plan to vote on November 3, 2026.
