The New York State Senate is the upper house of the NYS Legislature, and it has 63 districts. Do you know which one you live in and who represents you in the NYS Senate?

Unlike the NYS Assembly, the answer is much more straightforward for residents of Jefferson County: we all live in New York State Senate District 49.

The New York State Senate’s 49th District map shows a district that includes all of Jefferson County, as well as Fulton, Hamilton, and Lewis counties and portions of Herkimer, Oswego, and St. Lawrence counties.

In 2026, the 49th District is represented by NYS Senator Mark Walczyk, a Republican from Watertown. He’s running for reelection against Democrat Cassie Robbins-Forbus, from Lowville.

Like members of the Jefferson County Legislature and the NYS Assembly, members of the New York State Senate serve two-year terms. As a result, all 63 NYS Senate seats are up for election in 2026.

If you live in Jefferson County, your NYS Senate district is the 49th District. Be sure to learn about the candidates, make a plan to vote, and make your voice heard in the 2026 NYS Senate race.
